Grand Teton Alpenglow

This location is called Schwabacher's Landing and was pretty packed with other photographers. I found my opening on the river channel and set up my camera equipment.

I arrived about 45mins before the estimated sunrise and waited through morning blue hour freezing my hands off because “why wear gloves”. All in hopes of catching this unique light on the mountain peaks.

This red illumination is referred to as Alpenglow. When the Sun is below the horizon, sunlight has no direct path to reach a mountain. Unlike the direct sunlight around sunrise or sunset, the light that causes alpenglow is reflected off airborne precipitation, ice crystals, or particulates in the lower atmosphere.

This might be my favorite photograph I’ve captured to date and I seriously mean that. I’m beyond excited to make this new work of art available to you.
