Klamath River in Northern California.
I stumbled across this scene on the last stretch of a road trip around California I took with my good friend Preston.
After a week of driving from Los Angeles to the South Gate of Yosemite. We stayed in an airstream for two nights while we explored the park. We then continued our journey out the farthest north of all entrances on the west side of the park, the Hetch Hetchy Entrance.
Our destination was the northern most part of HWY 101 in California so we could travel south back to LA using the PCH.
After a pitstop to McArthur Burney Falls and driving through a part of the redwoods where they filmed “The Last Jedi”. We finally made it to Crescent City where we stayed for two nights in our second hotel of the trip. There was a casino attached and that made for some fun.
Our first morning we did some exploring around the area. Went to Big Tree and attempted a hike along the coast, but prevented from completing it due to heard of Rosevelt elk on the trail. Fortunately this wasn’t mating season, but we discovered the female elks are very protective of their young as Preston was charged and had a stare off with one of the elk. Fortunately she allowed Preston to turn his back and walk off, but not before we both saw his life flash before his eyes.
After our adventures in Crescent City we started making our way down the coast where we stumbled across this incredible part of the Klamath River. The hazy cloud coverage made a sun halo to create one of the most unique scenes I’d ever scene while driving down 101.
